Marshmallow and NIL 10/21/24
Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well and life is going great for you all. I can definitely feel the prayers, so thank you.
Since I got here a week later than I was supposed to and our first week we were only moving trees, my trainers have had to make up for the lost time. One of things we've had to make up is exchanges and since one my trainers is the district leader, I've been on 5 exchanges in the past 10 days, which I'm pretty sure is a lot. An exchange is where you switch companions for day to learn about their area and perspective on missionary work. I love exchanges because they are an opportunity to learn from guys who are way better than me at this work and exchanges present themselves as an outlet for me to actually contribute abstract thoughts in English.
My quick Spanish update is that I now sound like a six year old, which is better than a five year old. I also love learning Spanish. However, I still struggle with complex ideas and getting ideas across that sound coherente. Now that I think about it, saying I sound like a six year old is probably too generous. It's definitely frustrating sometimes, but I know learning Spanish is possible with trust put in the Lord and staying on my grind. If any of you have any study tips or advice regarding learning Spanish or a new language in general, feel free to email me anything. Any help received would be appreciated.
One exchange, in particular stood out to me because it was with none other than Elder Singer. My favorite trait regarding Elder Singer is his, what seems to be, inate obsesion with Marshmello. For those of you who don't know: Marshmello is this EDM DJ who makes kind of corny techno music and wears a mask that looks like a Marshmello. Marshmello also held the first ever live video game concert in Fortnite. It was so turnt you just had to have been there. This Elder has a Marshmello mask, Marshmello journal, Marshmello tee shirts, and drawings of Marshmello all over his apartment. When we were in his car during the sunset, he goes "YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS!?" And starts playing the acoustic version of Happier by Marshmello and the timing was just so perfect. I hope to one day love my future family as much as this guy loves Marshmello. I'm kidding. Seriously though Elder Singer is a stellar missionary, I applaud his loyalty to Marshmello, and I look forward to our future exchanges.
On our exchange with Elder Singer we visited with a new member(someone who was baptized within the past year). Turns out this guy is ex-NFL player. His name is Kamerion Wimbley and was drafted 1st round 13th overall by the Clevand Browns and later played for the Titans and Raiders. He was at Florida State for an alumni meeting and was approached by our sister missionaries and loved what they had to say. He did some research himself and was intrigued by the sheer amount of LDS members from the NFL community and Tallahassee community in our church. Some include Steve Young, Taysom Hill, and Andy Reid. Also he met my mission president who played football for Harvard and is legit the coolest guy. These prominent members within the communities he is apart of sparked his interest in the church and he was able to gain his own testimony through the power of the Holy Ghost. He loves the fellowship of our church, but more importantly he has so much faith that our Gospel brings peace into our lives. There's so much more to his story, so sadly I can't write it all. Just trust me when I say it was dope and strengthened my spirit.
We talked with him for like 3 hours and he was just dropping knowledge on us. He's definitely a genius, because he showed us his investment portfolio and he's into dog genetics and and crazy fitness stuff. He's also into AI digitizing athlete's name image and likeness (NIL) and I talked with him about NIL in college sports and the NFL for like 45 minutes. I didn't know I can hold a conversation with an NFL player about NIL for 45 minutes, but apparently I can, so shout out Sportscenter and shout out Mr. Anderson. He also said he wants to take us onto the field at Florida State and talk more there, so I'll let ya'll know if that goes down.
Overall great week this week and im so excited to continue this work of spreading the joy we get from Christ. I testify that's it's the best possible work I could be doing right now and I'm not alone in this time of my life.
Invitation: Listen to a 2024 General Confrence Talk. We have propehts today and I testify they guide us in these crazy times.
Remember you are loved and life is good.
Peace and Love,
Elder Adamson
